Foods for Low Carb Diet

If you imagine a garden full of sweet smelling fruits and healthy vegetable, you will be tempted to taste the same. Think of the Garden of Eden. Our bodies were created to eat foods that grow on trees, bushes or from the earth. Processed foods were not available to Adam and Eve so they probably aren’t on our intended diet either. Remember low carb doesn’t mean unhealthy no carbs. Instead a low carb diet can be both nourishing and fulfilling even if you eat only foods for low carb diet plans.

When I picture the Garden of Eden, I see a perfect garden full of color and healthy food. These foods were carefully created to give us the perfect recipe for our healthy. Unfortunately, we have corrupted these foods in order to create processed foods that are both fatting and unhealthy. Therefore, if we want to lose weight and live healthy, we must return to low carb foods.

Many people are confused about low carb diets. They think that they are allowed only huge portions of meat and few if any carbs. Of course, there are some diets that are too restrictive, but the true low carb diet does not fall into that category. First and foremost, you can find foods for low carb diets just by color. Almost any green vegetable is a low carb food. The greener the vegetable, the better it is for you. For instance, avoid light lettuce and go for the darker green varieties. Great foods for low carb diets are spinach, turnip greens, broccoli, asparagus, cabbage, celery, and green beans. Generally, depending on how you serve these vegetables, you can have as much as you want. Eating them raw is a great way to preserve their vitamins and minerals. If the vegetable cannot be eaten raw, steaming is a great way to cook them and not add calories. A little salt and pepper and they are ready for the table.

A good low carb diet plate should have good color. You can add color with various fruits. Tomatoes are a perfect low carb food. For a while tomatoes were limited until research found that their sugars were ok. Tomatoes can be served raw or grilled with some lovely herbs and spices. A tiny bit of olive oil will add even more flavor. Tomatoes are also perfect in a salad with dark lettuce and other low card diet foods. Be careful with the salad oil or you might as well be eating a bacon cheeseburger.

By now you are starting to wonder why I haven’t mentioned potatoes and corn. If you love these vegetables, you can have them every once and a while to stop a craving. They are not considered low carb diet foods, but if you have only a little serving, no one will call the low carb police.

Fruits are another great way to add flavor to a low carb diet. Obviously, you cannot eat all of the fruits you might want like you can green vegetables, but you can have some. Watermelon and antelopes are great snack foods. Apples, oranges, plums, peaches, pears, and other fresh fruits are perfect in moderation. Certainly they are better choices than any processed snack.

Foods for low carb diets do not have to be tasteless. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables and your low carb diet will help you lose weight. Beware of eating too much processed foods even if they are labeled low carb. Remember how much weight you gained when you ate a whole package of low fat cookies and couldn’t understand why. When in doubt, think of the bright colored garden and you will know what low carb foods are correct for your diet.
